PTS: Personal Touch for Seniors - Where trust meets compassion — respite care for caretakers
About Us – Personal Touch for Seniors
Personal Touch for Seniors was born from my own deeply personal journey — caring for my father, a 95-year-old World War II veteran, during the final years of his life. His only wish was simple: to remain in his home until it was no longer physically possible.
At first, it was manageable. I made his morning coffee just the way he liked it, cooked breakfast, brought him to doctor’s appointments, and watched his favorite game shows with him. But over time, his needs grew — and so did my responsibilities. I found myself needing just a few hours of relief… a chance to breathe and recharge. But there was no one to step in.
My role evolved from supportive son to full-time caregiver. I helped him in and out of bed, to the bathroom, got him dressed, and stayed within earshot in case he fell. Eventually, I was doing everything — paying bills, cooking, cleaning — all while migraines became a constant companion and time away from my wife grew harder to bear. Despite his service, no veterans’ programs were available to help us. And healthcare facilities? They were never an option. My father wanted to age in place — and I was determined to honor that.
Connecticut has no shortage of visiting nurse services and companion agencies — but their costs were out of reach. The mandatory minimum hours made them unrealistic for families like ours. I was completely burned out. I needed help… and there was nowhere to turn.
If this sounds like your experience — you are not alone.
Personal Touch for Seniors was created for people like you — family members trying to do it all, but quietly falling apart. Our mission is simple: to provide compassionate, reliable help you’d expect from a devoted child — the “personal touch” that can make all the difference.
My dad stayed in his home until the final two weeks of his life. Then he entered Connecticut Hospice, and the care he received there was beautiful. I have no regrets. And I want others to be able to say the same.
We’re here to help — through companionship, errands, daily check-ins, and respite care for the caregiver who just needs a break. You don’t have to carry this alone.
